Over a thousand Google staff members have put their names to an open letter, demanding that the company cut all business relationships with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), as reported by CNBC.

Within their correspondence, the employees denounce what they characterize as increasing brutality associated with federal immigration enforcement and highlight multiple notable fatalities in the United States. They express apprehension regarding the potential misuse of Google’s technology by government bodies. The letter specifically states that Google Cloud forms part of CBP’s surveillance infrastructure, and that Google’s tools aid solutions utilized by ICE.

The staff members insisted that leadership reveal and discontinue all existing contracts and partnerships with these agencies. Furthermore, the signatories requested an internal briefing concerning Google’s agreements with the US Department of Homeland Security and military entities. They also advocated for tangible safeguards for employees, such as greater flexibility for remote work and assistance with immigration-related issues.

Google has not yet provided a statement regarding the letter.
